Believing in Our Grandparents

Excitement, adventure, joy and delight are all possible even in old age. To bring our grandparents or even parents out of sedentary slow lives, we cannot think that old age is an excuse for accomplishing great things.  Here’s a homemade card of mine posted with a fitting Monday afternoon quote…

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch.  Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson (quote taken from The Silverado Story, p. 21)

The Ralph Waldo Emerson quote is wonderfully insightful, and should be taken to heart in all of our relationships, especially those with the elderly and others with cognitive or physical limitations.
