Mouse Droppings and Funny Reagan

Today I found mouse droppings in our pantry!! Fortunately (or unfortunately), we never had mice in our house growing up, so I unknowingly picked up one of the mouse droppings and squished it thinking it must have been some sort of bug or something.  The(more…)

Eat Up – Foods for Grandma + Friends

Is it August already? Maddie is already 3 months old YESTERDAY and I am enjoying her much. I used to always think that little babies weren’t so cute.  Was I wrong.  I can’t keep myself from saying the word “cute” too many times a day.(more…)

About Being Old

Valentine’s day not your thing?? Well I had a moment of inspiration this morning I just had to share.

Today I greeted some elders in the elevator. “Happy Valentine’s day!” I said them. The men and women smiled at me. And then a second later, one of the ladies leaned over her walker and said to her friend, “Later today I am going to call friends I know who are feeling lonely!”

Was I that blessed to get to overhear this?? Before she got to her floor, I told her, “You inspire me!”

No joke at 96 there she was spreading some inspiration in the air.

If you haven’t done a thing to celebrate today, no need for chocolate! Grab your phone and actually call someone who you think might be lonely. There’s still time!!!

About Being Old

One of the highlights of my writing is that I have gotten to touch base with some of the older adults that I worked with early in my career in senior living. So so sweet!!
.
Last week my little Ben tagged along. In theory it sounded like a great idea to bring him, but here was the reality of before the interview when he was not up for anything and AFTER when he knew he finally had Momma all to himself. All smiles 🙂
.
The “Grandma’s” and “Grandpa’s” were totally understanding though and what they shared was gold that I am injecting throughout! One of my favorite residents who I hadn’t caught up with for about 10+ years brought a car, a super cool Dino, and a book for my bud.
.
At this point I am looking for males in their 70’s, 90’s or 100’s who would be interested in short interviews about what they wish people knew about being old and aging. If you know someone local to me who would be blessed simply by being heard, PM or email at aboutbeingold@gmail.com. I will probably have enough without volunteers but I know for some it is a blessing!
